Indiana Democratic Party 10-20-18 Weekly Radio Address Podcast

Chairman John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 10-20-18 Weekly Radio Address:

It’s the height of hypocrisy for McConnell and Republicans to run up the federal deficit by showering tax breaks on the wealthiest among us, while then sticking working Hoosiers with the bill.

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.

We knew two things about this midterm election going into this year. Number one: it was going to be close here in Indiana. Number two: Everything is on the ballot – including issues impacting every single Hoosier.

The latest is that Mitch McConnell has said he intends to cut Social Security and Medicare to pay down the enormous deficit his tax plan created.

Hoosiers have worked hard their entire lives. They’ve paid into the system and played by the rules. Now McConnell and Republicans are threatening to pull the rug out from under them. That’s not fair.

It’s the height of hypocrisy for McConnell and Republicans to run up the federal deficit by showering tax breaks on the wealthiest among us, while then sticking working Hoosiers with the bill.

So, the difference in this election couldn’t be clearer. Senator Joe Donnelly voted against McConnell’s tax plan because he believed, among other things, that we shouldn’t saddle our children and grandchildren with debt to pay for tax cuts for corporations and top earners.

He’s fought to protect Social Security and Medicare for Hoosiers who have paid into the system their entire working lives. Joe and our Democratic candidates need to be in Washington to block this low blow to 99% of Americans. Some may be trying to buy this election but the rest of us are voting with health care, social security and so much more on our minds.

Only together can we fight for fairness, a brighter future and better state for Hoosiers of all walks of life to succeed in working and raising a family.

Thank you for listening.
