Hale Named Candidate to Watch by New Democrats

INDIANAPOLIS – In another sign of the strength of her campaign, the New Democratic Coalition Action Fund named Fifth Congressional District candidate Christina Hale to its shortlist of candidates to watch.

Made up of 103 forward-thinking, solutions-oriented Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives, the New Democrat Coalition backs policies that support economic growth, innovation, and fiscal responsibility. Its campaign arm, the NewDem Action Fund, helps elect like-minded leaders who will advance a positive policy agenda and message. In 2018, NewDems delivered the Democratic Majority in the House by flipping 32 of 40 net seats blue and contributing about $18 million to electing House Democrats.

“As we begin this campaign it’s wonderful to receive this recognition and support,” said Hale. “Like the members of this coalition, I am a problem solver who isn’t afraid to reach across the aisle to get things done for middle-class families, like lowering the cost of health care or expanding economic opportunity. That’s what I’ve done throughout my career and it’s what I will do in Congress.”

Hale was one of three candidates nationwide named to the organization’s “Candidate Watch List”.

“The NewDem Action Fund knows what it takes to win in Republican districts,” said Congressman Ami Bera, Chair of the NewDem Action Fund. “That’s how NewDems flipped 32 seats to deliver the Democratic Majority in the House in 2018. Our Members ran strong campaigns focused on kitchen table issues like economic opportunity and affordable healthcare. We believe we can repeat that success with this strong crop of contenders in 2020 and look forward to partnering with them for big success.”

In the first 100 hours of her campaign, which launched July 11, Hale has raised more than $100,000.  In addition to the growing support Hale’s campaign is receiving throughout the district, the NewDem Action Fund’s backing puts the campaign in a strong position to win in the competitive district.

A community leader and non-profit executive, Hale has spent her career working for Hoosier families – winning praise in the General Assembly for her cooperative approach, and earning the endorsement of both the Indiana AFL-CIO and Indiana Chamber of Commerce. As a single mom who worked hard to provide a better life for herself and her family, she understands the challenges facing middle-class Hoosiers and will fight in Washington to lower the cost of health care and create greater economic opportunity for Hoosiers throughout the Fifth Congressional District.
