Indiana Democratic Party 7-20-19 Weekly Radio Address Podcast

Chairman John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 7-20-19 Weekly radio address Podcast.

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.

This week, the Indiana Young Democrats hosted the Young Democrats of American Convention in Indianapolis. Every two years, young leaders in our party come together to vote on their boards, handle official business, and train activists to seek elected office or join campaigns.

I was excited to speak at the opening general session earlier this week because it is incredibly important to remind even our youngest organizers, candidates, and their teams that they are intrinsic to our Party.

They are the generation that will be left to fight for the rights of many. They are the generation that will run our government, businesses, and communities. They are the generation that is the most inclusive. They are the generation that is most digitally savvy and connected.

I am proud of what we have seen from these leaders thus far. Right here in Indiana, we have nearly 150 young or millennial age candidates on the ballot in 2019. Last year, we saw one of the youngest ever state representatives elected, Chris Chyung, to represent Northwest IndianaHoosiers at the Statehouse as a Democrat.

In the 2018 midterms, we had the largest grassroots operation we have had in our state and it was largely led by young volunteers and staffers that were ready for change.

It’s why the gains we make as a Party can’t be made without the work of young people knocking doors, making calls, planning rallies, marching for their rights, and especially importantly – seeking to run for office at every local level and leading campaigns every day. Young people are not just the future of our Party, their time is now. They are the Party. And we will rise with our young Democrats leading the way.

As the YDA convention ends today, we are reminded of the work we must do to move our nation forward. It will take all of us getting off the sidelines to win in 2019 and 2020. So much is at stake and I am happy to see young folks ready to take action.

I’m optimistic of what can happen here in our state in next year and right now in 2019. We just need everyone to help us get there, including you. You can get involved with the Party at indems.org/join.

Also, please follow the IDP on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Simply search INDems – that’s I-N-D-E-M-S on those social media platforms andfollow us to get the latest news about our candidates and what we’re doing to hold our counterparts at the Statehouse and in Washington accountable.Thank you for listening.
