Is Anyone Surprised A Majority of Hoosiers Approve of President Trump

MUNCIE, Indiana – Despite the ongoing investigation into his administration and impeachment inquiry, a majority of Hoosiers approve of the job President Trump is doing, says the preliminary results of the Old National Bank/Ball State University 2019 Hoosier Survey.

In the telephone survey of 600 adult Hoosiers, 52 percent of those responding approved of the job he is doing as president, compared to only 40 percent who disapproved.

“These survey results show that, despite the recent impeachment inquiry, the President’s approval among Hoosiers continues to hold steady,” said Chad Kinsella, a political science professor and survey analyst at the Bowen Center for Public Affairs, which conducts the annual public opinion survey.  “The survey indicates that Trump’s approval is essentially unchanged from last year’s Hoosier Survey.”

Trump’s approval continues to be polarized along party lines, said Kinsella.

“The president has great support among Republicans, with 86 percent approving, split among independents, with 46 percent approval, and little support among Democrats, with only 11 percent approving.”

The full report will be released Nov. 12, 2019.

Survey Methodology

The Old National Bank / Ball State University 2019 Hoosier Survey obtained telephone interviews with a representative sample of 600 adults living in Indiana. Telephone interviews were conducted by landline (315) and cell phone (285, including 200 with adults with no landline phone). The survey was conducted by Issues & Answers Network, Inc. (I&A). Interviews were done in English from October 8-28, 2019. Statistical results are weighted to correct known demographic discrepancies. The margin of sampling error for the complete set of weighted data is ±5.2 percentage points.
