Indiana Democratic Party 1-18-20 Weekly Radio Address Podcast

Chairman John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 1-18-20 Weekly radio Address Podcast:

This week, Governor Holcomb also delivered his State of the State Address in Indianapolis. Missing from that speech was any mention of expanding the state’s Pre-K program, or a raise for teachers this year. Instead, he suggested further kicking the can down the road until next year’s longer legislative session. At the same, he said this week that 99% of teachers received raises this year. If that were the case, why is he discussing giving them raises at all? And why did Speaker Bosma dispute those numbers? It seems the Republicans in the Statehouse are confused about the true need to give teachers the pay raises they deserve right NOW.

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.

This weekend, we are observing Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,, where we think of ways to continue his legacy of service in our communities and in our state. All over the country, citizens will take part in service projects to help others in their community or area. If you can please take part in a service project where you live to advance this legacy.

At the same time, Democrats in the Statehouse continue to fight consistently to give those raises now, in addition to expanding voting rights and putting forth common sense legislation to promote gun safety and increase wages.

Are you frustrated that more isn’t getting done, and that despite what other states might be doing, Indiana is still falling behind on important progress?

If so, think about running for office this year. The filing period for candidacy for federal, state and local office began January 8and runs until Friday, February 7 at NOON local time. Depending on the office you’d run for – you either file with the State of Indiana in Indianapolis, or at your local election office. Either way – the deadline is the same.

Not interested in running for office? Please consider helping someone who is running this year. Indiana Democrats have a great opportunity this year to break the legislative supermajority in the Indiana House of Representatives, and to pick up seats in our State Senate. Through the hard work of our candidates in 2018, Democrats picked up the most legislative seats in more than a decade. That can happen again if we work together to get it done.

Sign up to join us at indems.org/join. As Indiana Democrats, we will never stop fighting for the issues that matter most to Hoosiers, and with 2020 now upon us, it is critical that we support candidates who support those issues.

And please follow the IDP on Facebook and Twitter. Simply search INDEMS – that’s I-N-D-E-M-S on Facebook and Twitter, and follow us to get the latest news about our candidates and what we’re doing to hold our counterparts at the Statehouse and in Washington accountable.

Thank you for listening.
