Rep. Carson Statement on COVID-19 in Indiana
Indianapolis, IN – Rep. André Carson released the following statement on the presence of COVID19 (Coronavirus) in Indiana:
“Today the Indiana State Department of Health announced the first instance of a presumptive-positive case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in our state. Following this announcement, Governor Holcomb declared a public health emergency to streamline our state’s response to this virus.
“Indiana is the 20th state in our country to confirm cases of COVID-19. While this first case is believed to be isolated, we must remain vigilant to the likelihood of community spread. We must also continue working closely with state and local officials to ensure we have the resources that are needed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. That is why I voted for the emergency supplemental bill, which provides $8.3 billion to help combat the spread of COVID-19 and invest in treatments and vaccines. This is just the beginning of what must be a comprehensive and robust response of support to our public health infrastructure and our communities.
“We all have a part to play in combatting this virus. This includes frequent hand washing, staying at home when you are sick, and avoiding touching your face. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and believe you might have the virus, I urge you call the Indiana State Department of Health immediately for guidance and for next steps. These symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. The Indiana State Department of Health can be reached at 317-233-7125 (or 317-233-1325after hours).
“This virus presents a profound challenge to our nation and our public health infrastructure. However, Hoosiers and Americans are a resilient and compassionate people. By taking important preventive measures, protecting the most vulnerable, and supporting our local public health agencies, we will overcome this outbreak.”
