TRANSCRIPT:
This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly message for the Indiana Democratic Party.
Well, the field is set in the race for Attorney General – Todd Rokita is the Republican nominee.
Fresh off finishing last in the 2016 GOP sweepstakes to replace Mike Pence and getting outgunned in the 2018 Senate primary, Todd Rokita barely mustered 50% of the vote against a candidate who literally committed criminal battery. Republicans, especially those insiders needed to jumpstart his campaign and write checks, don’t like him. The very same people Rokita needs view him as: a “prideful hothead,” “abrasive,” “self-serving,” and “difficult to work with.”
Rokita has also made a career out of attempting to strip Hoosiers of their health care, saying that it “hit the sweet spot,” and he was “pleased to vote for it.”Just last month, Rokita doubled down, saying he’ll keep Indiana in a lawsuit that would result in 564,000 Hoosiers losing their coverage — in the middle of a global pandemic.
Rokita talks about the need for integrity in state government, but he had no problem spending $3 million in taxpayer funds to promote his political career, which caused lawmakers to pass legislation to specifically outlaw then-Secretary of State Rokita and other state officials from using taxpayer dollars to fund their ads. Party officials even blocked Rokita from accessing the Republican donor database until he angrily complained.
Rokita’s own party doesn’t like him. He’s out to destroy Hoosiers’ health care. He lacks integrity. And he should not be the Attorney General of Indiana.
