Indiana Democratic Party 7-4-20 Weekly Radio Address Podcast

Chairman John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 7-4-20 Weekly Radio Address:

And now, the toss ups. This week, a national political forecaster moved the 5th Congressional race from leans Republican to toss-up. Earlier in June, the same national organization moved Indiana’s race for attorney general from leans Republican to toss up.

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly message for the Indiana Democratic Party.

Let’s talk toss-ups.

But first, the background.

Since 2016, the Party has been channeling new energy into action. We’ve held dozens of trainings for candidates, activists and volunteers. Our goal has been to provide the tools and resources to help Hoosier Democrats be better candidates and run better, more data-focused campaigns.

We’ve held trainings in the middle of a blizzard…twice. We’ve driven thousands of miles and made trainings happen in every corner of our state.

We’ve made progress.

We flipped four legislative seats in 2018 and defended or picked up a total of 9 seats President Trump won in 2016.

In 2019, we hit the gas pedal. We won in places Democrats have never been elected to. Places like Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville and Avon.

We won in small rural cities, like Tell City and Charlestown. And we dominated in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville and Northwest Indiana where we added to wins.

We’ve been building toward 2020.

And now, the toss ups. This week, a national political forecaster moved the 5th Congressional race from leans Republican to toss-up. Earlier in June, the same national organization moved Indiana’s race for attorney general from leans Republican to toss up.

National organizations are taking note of what we’ve known for a long time: Indiana is a battleground.

So what can you do?

You can get involved with a campaign in your area. You can chip in a buck or two – whatever you can spare. You can reach out to your local Democratic county party to register voters.

Whatever you can do, it helps.

Thank you for listening, and best wishes for a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend.
