Indiana Democratic Party 8-1-20 Weekly Radio Address

Chairman John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 8-1-20 Weekly Radio Address:

But think about it…maybe that in itself is the reason they don’t want to do this – because people voted. The fact that so many Hoosiers exercised their right to vote this way probably bothers Indiana Republicans so much that they can’t stomach knowing that many people – or more – could do it again in the fall.

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly message for the Indiana Democratic Party.

This week, we saw more news come our way from the President of the United States who, among other things, said that perhaps we should change the date of the November 3 election.

Yes, this is the same President who has not committed to accepting the results of that same election, and the President who repeatedly criticizes vote-by-mail…in the middle of a global pandemic.

Here in Indiana, we have about four times as many cases of COVID-19 as we did on the day back in March when the Indiana Election Commission decided to allow for no-fault absentee voting – meaning you don’t have to check a reason for voting by mail – you just can.

Thus far, however, Gov. Eric Holcomb and state Republicans are digging their heels in and refusing to allow for the expansion of voting rights despite these new numbers – and despite knowing that nearly 500,000 Hoosiers voted by mail in the June 2 primary.

But think about it…maybe that in itself is the reason they don’t want to do this – because people voted. The fact that so many Hoosiers exercised their right to vote this way probably bothers Indiana Republicans so much that they can’t stomach knowing that many people – or more – could do it again in the fall.

Remember, the Republican Party is the same organization that gutted the Voted Rights Act, put in place restrictive voter ID laws – and the same Party that refuses to expand polling hours and has literally taken away your right to do so if you are disenfranchised on Election Day. And now, they’re showing that they just don’t want you to vote by mail, either.
