Indiana Democratic Party 8-29-20 Weekly Radio Address

Chairman John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 8-29-20 Weekly Radio Address:

During the last week, though, Americans had the chance to hear it all in one place: the lies, the misinformation – and the distractions attempted by the President to confuse the American people from what is really happening.

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly message for the Indiana Democratic Party.

This week, the Republican Party held their national convention, capped off by a big party on the South Lawn of the White House with 1,500 guests – the majority of whom were not wearing masks. Not only did this flout the Trump-Pence Administration’s own guidelines for safe social gatherings – but many feel the gathering itself and the campaign event at the White House was unethical – possibly illegal.

During the last week, though, Americans had the chance to hear it all in one place: the lies, the misinformation – and the distractions attempted by the President to confuse the American people from what is really happening.

Look, the American people can see through the President’s lies.

  • Trump says he’s saving healthcare, while the reality is that his administrations is in court trying to take it away from 500,000 Hoosiers.
  • He says he’s bringing back jobs, but the reality is that this President is outsourcing jobs faster than at any point in the last decade.
  • Trump says he’s trying to save Social Security and Medicare, but his budgets have consistently slashed them.
  • He says he’s lowering prescription drugs prices, but they have consistently increased since he took office.

It’s these things and more that people see right through. And it’s not that Donald Trump has disrupted norms that pushes people away from him. In fact, that’s why many Americans voted for him. It’s what he’s actually doing each day in office to hurt the American people and our democracy that needs to be focused on for the next 60 days.

The President and Republicans have continued to refuse to expand voting by mail for Americans – but even worse, Indiana Republicans have let Indiana remain one of six states who are refusing to expand it – despite record numbers of COVID-19 cases occurring in our state.

Saying the stakes are high sounds cliché – and no one needs to be reminded of that. But by working hard and working together, we have real opportunities here in our state and nationally. We just have to get the job done.

The choices in this election are clear. Interested in helping?
